Stepping off the All-Inclusive

Cassandra Jankovski

When you get used to being on an all-inclusive it can be hard to think of going away without the luxury of being wined and dined every day at the turn of your head. If you are wanting to get off the resort and do a little self-exploring there are lots of options, but it can be hard to make that initial decision if you have never planned to before. The first thing to think of is if you'd like to stick with your original plans to hit the beach or if you'd like to experience something a little more off the beaten path. If you are wanting to stick with the beaches, start by looking up your destinations and flights will be an initial start to where you want to go.

The best way to start out with your planning off the resort is to establish an appropriate budget for the planning portion of your trip, making an approximate guideline for what you'd like to pay for your flights and accommodation. Having set up what you're looking to spend, this is when the fun part begins, exploring the possibilities of where you'd like to visit. Beginning with exploring potential locations can start with simple places that you've normally seen people vacation, but it can broaden so much when you start looking in to a number of new and exciting places to visit.

After deciding on the appropriate flights for your new destination, looking in to the accommodation type that fits your idea of holidays is the next step. Keep in mind how ground transport will work once you arrive, and how close you want to be to the beach, city or sites that you want to see. There are always tons of options to look through, from renting a luxury villa to staying in a surf hostel on the beach, the best thing to do is explore a multitude of places and narrow it down to your favourite 3 available on the dates you're planning for. Once you've narrowed your selections, look at multiple sites for reviews of your accommodation to get a variety of perspectives on just what you might be looking at and set in on what your decision is to book.

Once you've planned all flights and lodging the next is what you want to do during your stay at this destination. Having an idea for what types of activities you want to do or certain sites you want to see in the area can help to shape what your plan will be while you are away. You can either plan out an entire schedule for what you'll be doing each day or use your ideas to make a list of what some ideas might like to do and just go with the flow once you arrive.
